Host Family

I apologize, it has been forever since I have last posted on this blog. A lot has happened. I have recieved money from various sources, all of whom I thank graciously. Also, I have learned that I have gotten a host family! I will be living with a family of 6 in Malaga, Spain. I am super excited to go, and now that I have a host family, the realization of my departure has intensified. Thanks to everyone who is supporting me on this adventure. Thank You!

This weekend my mother is helping me with a fundraising oppurtunity. She will be running a yard sale on Mile Creek Road, the end near the Nearly New Shop. We will be selling our old stuff, which could be your new treasure, most proceeds going to me. Please support me this Saturday. Thank You!

Progress!

I have just recieved a phone call from one of my AFS contacts, and I have recieved a $1500 scholarship for an essay I wrote for AFS. The second highest award for this scholarship!

Hola!

Hi, I am Ally McCarthy and I am a sophomore at Lyme-Old Lyme High School. Next year I will be studying abroad in Spain for ten months through AFS. While in Spain, my goal is to learn Spanish and open my eyes to a whole new culture and country abroad. When I return from Spain in June 2011, I will just have returned from one of the most positive life changing experiences a high school student could have.
The tuition of this trip is $13000 not including spending money, visa money, and other costs of traveling. To raise this money I have been working and I have applied for a scholarship, but this will not be enough. I plan to start a fundraising campaign called "3400 miles to Spain" in which I will hold multiple events, for example; 5ks, walk-a-thons, and swimming events. The miles covered at each of these events will help me raise the money to cross the miles to Spain. Information about these events will be up on this blog in the near future.
